As a local community organisation, the Friends of Kingsmead Field relies heavily on the work of volunteers in all the aspects of its activities. Below is information on the type of work volunteers undertake and how you can get involved. We welcome all offers of help, whatever your age or abilities.
Volunteer opportunities
Volunteers play a very important role in helping the Friends to look after the field, raise funds for new amenities and install new equipment such as benches. In the past, volunteer activities have included:
- Bulb planting
- Wildflower sowing
- Pruning trees
- Litter picks, including river cleans
- Installation and maintenance of benches
- Running events – including preparations, registering participants, first aid support.
How to get involved
Whilst litter picks and maintenance tasks run all year around, many of our other volunteering projects such as planting occur on an ad hoc basis. At the moment, the field is undergoing a considerable amount of work and volunteering opportunities are harder to predict. To stay informed of all our activities, including opportunities for volunteering, please contact Sian to subscribe to our newsletter or join our >Facebook group.
Work of the committee
In addition, the Friends committee is made up of volunteers who work with the City and County Councils to bring about improvements to the field, organise and run events, lead ad hoc volunteering tasks and keep the press informed of our activities.
To find out more about the work of the Committee, please see our About us page. To enquire about joining our committee, please contact Sian on kingsmeadfield@gn.apc.org.
